Access Changes Everything
Expanding access, mentorship, and opportunity for student-athletes-removing barriers so Black & Brown youth across NYC can thrive on and off the field.
HOW WE CREATE ACCESS
Removing barriers so student-athletes can stay in the game and thrive on and off the field
Talent is everywhere. Access is not.
Too many student-athletes in underserved communities—especially Black & Brown youth—face barriers that have nothing to do with their talent or potential.
Limited access to mentorship, financial resources, transportation, academic support, exposure, and trusted networks can keep young athletes from opportunities they have worked hard to earn.
AASA exists to help close those gaps so student-athletes have the support, resources, and opportunities they need to stay in the game and thrive on and off the field.
We remove barriers by providing:
-
Mentorship & leadership development
-
Academic support & tutoring referrals
-
Confidence, communication & life-skills development
-
Recruitment & pathway guidance
-
Parent & student workshops
-
Access support for uniforms, transportation & limited travel
-
Career readiness & financial literacy
-
Connections to opportunities and community resources
Our work begins in Canarsie and surrounding Brooklyn communities, where we partner with students, families, schools, coaches, local organizations, and community leaders.
We believe lasting change starts by understanding the needs of the communities we serve and building trusted relationships within them.
Our goal is to create a strong local model that expands access and opportunity for student-athletes while developing partnerships that allow AASA to grow throughout NYC and, over time, reach young people in communities beyond New York.
